Yama Yoga was created as a way to awaken and illuminate our true essence through the practice of yoga.
Along this yogic path — connecting mind, body, and soul — we grow and awaken.
Yama Yoga exists to guide and hold space for all who walk this path, so that each student may live boldly, fully, and with love for self and all beings. This is the heart of Yama Yoga’s mission: to support each of us on a journey toward peace, balance, and contentment.
According to ancient yogic writings, Yama represents universal morality — the moral virtues that guide how we live. These are the ethical principles one strives to follow in yoga. The Yamas address how we interact with others and describe mindful, compassionate behavior in our engagement with the world.
The Yamas consist of five ethical principles — essentially “The Golden Rule”:
Ahimsa – non-violence
Satya – truthfulness
Asteya – non-stealing
Brahmacharya – moderation and self-restraint
Aparigraha – non-possessiveness
As I reflected on and explored Yama Yoga’s philosophy, the Yamas deeply resonated with me. When we strive to live fully by these principles, we stand on a strong foundation for our yogic journey.
I founded Yama Yoga to create a space where women can reconnect with themselves and rediscover joy, peace, and connection. Since completing my yoga teacher training in 2010, I’ve guided more than 3,000 classes and led 24 retreats across Colorado and Mexico. Each one is a unique opportunity for women to slow down, reflect, and awaken to living fully and boldly.
Before teaching yoga, I spent nearly a decade working as an environmental engineer — a chapter that strengthened my appreciation for structure, clarity, and purpose. Over time, I realized my true calling was to connect with people on a deeper level and help them live with intention and love.
When I’m not teaching or hosting retreats, you’ll find me laughing with my family, dancing, traveling, or spending time in nature. I believe yoga extends far beyond the mat — it’s a lifelong practice of mindfulness, compassion, and courageous living.
